On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Vale (VALE3) reported that 19 eligible municipalities have agreed to the terms set out in the Final Agreement for compensation and remediation of damages resulting from the collapse of the Fundão dam in Mariana (MG), which occurred in 2015. As a result, 45 of the 49 eligible municipalities are now formally part of the Final Agreement.

The adherence was formalized within the scope of a mediation process conducted by the Federal Regional Court of the 6th Region (TRF-6), which accepted the voluntary declaration of the municipalities that had not yet joined. To be entitled to receive, in a single installment, the amount equivalent to the three installments already paid to the municipalities, within up to 30 days after the ratification of the respective terms, the new participants must comply with the conditions set out in the agreement, including waiving lawsuits and legal proceedings related to the dam collapse, in Brazil and abroad. Subsequent installments will follow the payment schedule established in the Final Agreement.

According to the company, the adherence of the vast majority of eligible municipalities reinforces the legitimacy and scope of the Final Agreement as an instrument of remediation, in addition to the recognition by Brazilian institutions and the courts for their role in implementing measures aimed at the full reparation of damages resulting from the collapse of the Fundão dam.
