Braskem (BRKM5) reported in a material fact on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, that its subsidiary Braskem Idesa S.A.P.I. has reached a comprehensive restructuring agreement with its main creditors and shareholders. The plan calls for a reduction of the senior debt from approximately US$ 2.5 billion to approximately US$ 1.6 billion and includes a total capital injection of US$ 476 million by Braskem, of which around US$ 126 million had already been made available before the Chapter 11 filing, reinforcing its commitment to the asset in the current period.
To implement the restructuring as quickly as possible, Braskem Idesa has initiated a “prepackaged” court-supervised restructuring process in the United States, through voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 before the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, with expected completion in 60 to 90 days. Upon completion, Braskem will continue to hold a majority stake in Braskem Idesa’s capital stock, whose operations will continue normally and without interruption, according to the statement.
