Embraer (EMBJ3) signed a contract on November 2, 2026, with Greece's Ministry of National Defense for the sale of three KC-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft, with purchase options for three more units. The deal is being carried out through a government-to-government agreement between Greece and Portugal. The document does not disclose the contract value.
The Hellenic Air Force will receive its first KC-390 Millennium in 2027. The aircraft will expand the country's air transport and aerial refueling capabilities and its interoperability (the ability to operate jointly) with NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and allied forces. Greece will also benefit from European synergies in training, support and logistics.
Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the aircraft, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. Outside Europe, the model has been acquired by the air forces of Brazil, the Republic of Korea, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and Colombia.
According to Embraer, the KC-390 Millennium carries a payload of 26 metric tons and flies at 470 knots. It performs missions such as cargo and troop transport, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting and humanitarian missions, including on temporary or unpaved runways. With the quick-install aerial refueling system, it can act as a tanker or receiver.
Bosco da Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, said that Greece's decision "underscores the confidence that important NATO members have" in the aircraft.
