Petrobras (PETR4) announced on Monday, August 3, 2026, the discovery of a new gas accumulation in the exploratory well Sandia-1, located in block GUA-OFF-0, in deep waters off Colombia. The well is approximately 42 kilometers off the Colombian coast and at a water depth of 1,251 meters.

According to the company, Sandia-1 is 18 kilometers from the discovery well Sirius-1 and the appraisal well Sirius-2, and 9 kilometers from the discovery well Copoazu-1. Petrobras states that the discovery reinforces the gas potential of the Colombian offshore and adds volumes that should contribute to the region’s energy security.

Drilling of the Sandia-1 well began on June 12, 2026 and reached final depth on July 29, 2026, following operating standards that, according to the company, respect the environment and people. The intervals with gas presence are being evaluated by well logs and will later be characterized through laboratory analyses.

Petrobras’ activities in block GUA-OFF-0 are part of the company’s long-term strategy to rebuild its oil and gas reserves by exploring new frontiers, in partnership with other companies, to help meet global energy demand during the energy transition.

In block GUA-OFF-0, Petrobras operates through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V – Sucursal Colombia (PIB-COL), with a 44.44% stake in the consortium, in partnership with Ecopetrol S.A., which holds 55.56%.
