Vale (VALE3) reported a global direct economic contribution of US$ 37.5 bn in 2025, considering payments to governments, wages and benefits, research and development, social and environmental expenses, operating costs, and payments to providers of capital, in accordance with GRI 201-1. The company reports a presence in 17 countries and a total workforce of 176,711 people, including employees and contractors.
In 2025, the mining company paid US$ 6.2 bn in taxes and royalties, comprising US$ 4.9 bn in its own taxes and US$ 1.3 bn in withheld taxes. Of this total, Brazil accounted for US$ 6.0 bn in taxes paid, including US$ 4.6 bn in its own taxes and US$ 1.4 bn in withheld taxes, equivalent to R$ 33.3 bn. According to the report, 70% of Vale’s global economic contribution in 2025 occurred in Brazil and 11% in Canada.
Breaking down the global economic contribution in 2025, payments to governments totaled US$ 5,162.1 mn; wages and benefits to employees, US$ 3,292.6 mn; research and development, US$ 693.1 mn; social expenses, US$ 837.0 mn; environmental expenses, US$ 827.2 mn; operating costs, US$ 22,055.1 mn; and payments to providers of capital, US$ 4,591.0 mn.
The report further details that, over the last decade (2016 to 2025), Vale contributed more than US$ 353 bn to the jurisdictions and regions where it operates, based on figures calculated from its annual reports. In 2025, the company’s workforce was made up of 65,805 employees and 110,906 contractors, 91% of whom were based in Brazil.
The information on own taxes and withheld taxes presented in Appendix 5 of the 2025 Tax Contributions Report was independently audited, with an opinion issued on July 30, 2026, concluding that the figures were prepared in accordance with the basis of preparation described in the document itself.
