WEG (WEGE3) reported this Friday, September 25, 2026, that it is expanding the project for its new battery energy storage systems (BESS) factory, which is under construction in Itajaí (SC). Announced in February this year, the unit will have a total estimated investment of R$ 330 million and an annual capacity of 4 GWh, with operations scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
According to the company, the updated project incorporates a higher level of automation and industrial efficiency gains, which will make it possible to increase production capacity and support the growth of the energy storage market in Brazil, on the eve of the first National Storage Capacity Reserve Auction, scheduled for December 2026.
WEG also highlighted that BESS plays a fundamental role in modern power systems, especially in the integration of renewable sources such as solar and wind, by enabling energy to be stored when it is more readily available and used when needed, contributing to the stability of the power system and the better use of energy resources.
