Fundamental Analysis of PLAS3 (Plascar)

IA

Plascar is a company in the Consumer Cyclical sector, within the Automobiles and Motorcycles subsector and segment, with PLAS3 shares traded on B3. It operates mainly through equity interests in other companies linked to the automotive chain, with a history of industrializing vehicle components and expanding via new manufacturing units and corporate reorganizations over the decades. Its trajectory indicates direct exposure to the automotive market, subject to economic cycles and demand swings in the industry.

In its reported financial fundamentals, a gross margin of around 13% suggests a level of profitability consistent with a competitive sector such as automotive, but which should be assessed together with other indicators. Average 5-year annual revenue growth above 20% points to meaningful recent top-line expansion. On the other hand, a Net Debt/EBITDA ratio of around 4.4 indicates high leverage, which can increase sensitivity to market volatility. Low current and quick ratios suggest a more pressured short-term capital structure, a relevant aspect for those tracking the shares and the operational sustainability of the company listed on B3.

About Plascar

Plascar Participações Industriais S.A., traded on B3 under the ticker PLAS3, is a Brazilian industrial group specialized in the manufacture of plastic auto parts and components for the interior and exterior finishing of motor vehicles. Its origins date back to 1963, with the founding of Oscar S/A Indústria de Artefatos de Borracha, which in 1973 began operating in the automotive segment. Over the following decades, the company went through corporate reorganizations and changes in control, including the establishment of Plascar S.A. Indústria e Comércio in 1982, focused specifically on the industrialization, trade, import and export of parts for the automotive market. In 1989, it went public and had its shares listed on the then São Paulo Stock Exchange, consolidating its presence in the Brazilian capital markets. Significant ownership changes took place in the 1990s and 2000s, with the entry of international groups, and more recently, in 2019, with the assumption of control by Mapa Capital, which began a financial restructuring process at the company.

Plascar’s industrial expansion trajectory includes the establishment of production units in different automotive hubs across the country. In 1991, the company began operations in the Industrial District of Jundiaí, in the state of São Paulo, where it maintains its headquarters to this day. In 1994, it started operating in Betim, in the state of Minas Gerais, focusing on dedicated supply to Fiat, now part of the Stellantis group, which reinforced its strategy of operating close to automakers. In the same year, it entered the city of Varginha, also in Minas Gerais, through the acquisition of Plavigor. In 2022, it began operations at an industrial unit in Caçapava, in the interior of São Paulo state, designed as a modern plant for the auto parts segment, expanding production capacity and reach in serving the automotive industry based in southeastern Brazil.

Plascar’s business model is centered on the production and supply of parts and components related to vehicle interior and exterior finishing, serving both the original equipment market for automakers and the replacement market, always with a focus on the automotive segment. The company has a product development center that covers engineering, design, materials engineering, tooling engineering and manufacturing, seeking to offer complete solutions in plastic components. Its main portfolio items include bumpers, instrument panels, air vents, consoles, grilles, tail lights, door panels, sun visors, glass mirrors and spoilers, in addition to other complex plastic parts for light and heavy vehicles. Although it also operates in the industrialization of non-automotive products, such as injection and assembly of supermarket carts and card machines, this line represents a minor share of total assets, net revenue and consolidated results, maintaining the company’s characterization as essentially an auto parts manufacturer.

Plascar’s industrial operation is based on a manufacturing park with a wide variety of polymer and composite material transformation processes. The company uses technologies such as conventional plastic injection, gas-assisted injection, 2K, 3K and 4K processes for multiple injections and colors, sheet and laminate extrusion, polyurethane foam injection, PVC slush molding, compression molding in materials such as Woodstock, as well as painting operations, vibration welding, ultrasonic, hot plate and hot air welding, presses, SMC (Sheet Molding Compound), metallization, chrome plating of plastic parts, component assembly, thermoforming and stamping. This combination of processes makes it possible to meet different technical and aesthetic specifications required by automakers, with solutions that integrate structure, visual finish and part functionality.

Plascar’s customer base is made up of light and heavy vehicle manufacturers based in Brazil, with high revenue concentration in large global automotive groups. In 2023 and 2024, the company recorded significant contributions from Fiat (Stellantis), Volkswagen, Scania and MAN to its net revenue, highlighting the importance of automakers of passenger cars and heavy commercial vehicles to the company’s economic performance. The commercial relationship is structured around long-term supply contracts linked to vehicle platform production cycles, which requires planning capability and operational flexibility in the face of volume adjustments. Although there is a small share of exports, foreign sales account for less than 5% of total revenue, which characterizes Plascar as a company that operates predominantly in the domestic segment of the Brazilian automotive supply chain.

With regard to logistics and distribution, Plascar adopts models aligned with automotive industry practices and does not have its own network of stores, agencies or dealers. Products are delivered directly from the industrial units to customers, using systems such as Just-in-Time (JIT) and Kanban, which require synchronized deliveries to automakers’ production lines. In certain cases, the company also uses the Direct-Shipment (DSH) model, through which parts are sent to logistics operators designated by automakers for subsequent distribution to dealership networks. This logistics setup reduces inventories along the chain and increases operational integration between Plascar and its main customers, but also makes it sensitive to production swings, technical shutdowns and collective vacations that are typical in the automotive sector.

The company operates in a highly competitive environment in the plastic auto parts segment, competing with domestic and multinational players such as Arteb, Fastplas, FMM, Grupo Motherson, Plastic Omnium, Prima Sole and Forvia. The market does not exhibit monopoly or oligopoly characteristics, and competitive conditions are influenced by factors such as raw material costs, production efficiency, quality, supply reliability and the ability to engage in joint development with automakers. Plascar depends on inputs such as thermoplastic resins (ABS, PC, compounded polypropylene, PVC, among others), paints, metal reinforcements and special resins, acquired from global and local suppliers, many of which are highly relevant to its supply needs. Some of these inputs display price volatility, which impacts the company’s cost structure and requires active management of contracts and inventories.

From a regulatory standpoint, Plascar’s core activities are not subject to direct economic regulation, but the company is indirectly affected by public policies that impact its automaker customers, such as the availability of auto credit, changes in sector taxes, industry incentive programs and macroeconomic conditions that influence vehicle demand. Tax incentives, such as temporary reductions in the Industrialized Products Tax (IPI) aimed at the automotive sector, can have a significant impact on automakers’ production pace and, consequently, on the company’s order book. In addition, scheduled and unscheduled shutdowns of automotive plants, maintenance cycles and global crises such as pandemics or international conflicts affect production planning, making demand relatively volatile and seasonal, especially at year-end.

Regarding environmental, social and corporate governance practices, Plascar states that it is committed to ESG criteria and seeks to align its management with best practices in the industrial sector. The company holds valid environmental permits for all its production units and operates an environmental management system certified under ISO 14001, focusing on reducing natural resource consumption, continuous process improvement and control of waste and effluents. Internal initiatives include water reuse programs, energy consumption monitoring and annual efficiency targets, as well as training and environmental awareness actions for employees and third parties. In the social and occupational safety field, the Zero Accident Program (PAZ), implemented since 2019, stands out, reinforcing safety as a core value. In governance, Plascar adopts practices that seek to go beyond the minimum requirements for the listing segment in which it trades on B3, having promoted updates to its bylaws, created working groups to support management, established an Ethics Committee in 2022 and set up a Corporate Responsibility area dedicated to integrating ESG topics into the company’s strategy and operations.

By combining a history of more than six decades of industrial activity, presence in important automotive hubs in the country, a client portfolio concentrated in major automakers and a product mix centered on plastic finishing components, Plascar and its PLAS3 shares represent a typical case of an auto parts company listed on B3, exposed to the cycle of the Brazilian automotive industry, credit conditions and the global competitive environment for supplying automakers.
