This Friday, August 14, 2026, Petrobras (PETR4) reported it has identified the presence of hydrocarbons in an exploratory well being drilled in block FZA-M-59, in deep waters off Amapá, in the Foz do Amazonas sedimentary basin, on Brazil’s equatorial margin. The Morpho well (1-BRSA-1405-APS) is located about 175 km off the coast of the state of Amapá, in 2,886 meters of water depth.
According to the company, the hydrocarbon-bearing interval was confirmed through electrical logs and rock indications. Drilling operations are ongoing to continue the exploratory evaluation, conducted safely and with respect for the environment and people.
Petrobras emphasized that its activity in block FZA-M-59 is aligned with its strategy to rebuild oil and gas reserves through exploration in frontier areas, with the goal of meeting national energy demand during what is considered a just energy transition. The company is the operator of the block and holds a 100% stake in the area, acquired in the 11th ANP Bidding Round in 2013, under the concession regime.
